A brilliant insight into Clinton's desire to burn the Democratic party down if she can't get the nomination (which she can't). Race, gender, you name it, and Clinton will use it to drive a wedge into her own party.
Nobody seems to have noticed that Hillary Clinton has broken international law by threatening Iran with 'obliteration.'
"I want the Iranians to know that if I'm the president, we will attack Iran," Clinton said in an interview with ABC. "In the next 10 years, during which they might foolishly consider launching an attack on Israel, we would be able to totally obliterate them."
Why are alarm bells not ringing?
In chapter I, article II of the United Nations Charter, it states:
Hillary Clinton seems to have completely lost the plot when it comes to U.S policy towards Iran. When speaking about a hypothetical nuclear attack from Iran on Israel, Clinton stated that:
"I want the Iranians to know that if I'm the president we will
attack Iran....In the next ten years, during which they
might foolishly consider launching an attack on Israel, we would be
able to totally obliterate them."
Firstly, Iran has not threatened Israel. Secondly, Iran is not developing nuclear weapons. Clinton is now committing American troops to ANOTHER foreign conflict, and one that has virtually no chance of ever happening. So why on earth is she saying this?
I'm trying to refrain from commenting on the Democratic Primary, as I'm now beginning to see it as an exercise in media rating wars rather than a serious political contest. However, Clinton's antics over the past few weeks (let alone the last few months) have become completely unbearable and worth speaking out about. This election is important. Let us not forget that. It is absolutely crucial that a Democrat is elected to office in 2008 for the sake of America, and the rest of the beleaguered planet. A continuation of George Bushes' policy via John McCain could tip an already fragile world over the edge and completely destroy the concept of the United States as a serious nation. Barack Obama may not be the perfect candidate, but he is the most perfect candidate we have left and it does Democrats no good allowing Hillary Clinton to baselessly attack him.
Obama is Electrifying. People go crazy for him. They scream, they
yell, they claw over each other to get a closer glimpse. He posseses rare
a magnetism shared by few human beings on this planet. In my
lifetime, I have not seen such a wide spectrum of people embrace a
candidate.
In only 15 days in late March, both Barack Obama and Hilary Clinton
came to Eugene, Oregon (my hometown). Although Eugene is a
relatively known town throughout the United States, it rarely draws
major political figures.
In recent memory, major political figures come through this part of
the Pacific Northwest roughly every 8 years. John Kerry put on a
private party in 2004, Vice President Al Gore spoke in 1996 on the
University of Oregon campus, and Michael Dukakis made an appearance at
the Springfield Mall in 1988.
The hypocrisy of Hillary Clinton is becoming legendary. Here she is on the Obama camp's supposed behind the scenes approval of NAFTA a couple of months ago:
"I don't think people should come to Ohio and tell the people of Ohio
one thing and then have your campaign tell a foreign government
something else behind closed doors," she said. "That's the
kind of difference between talk and action and that I've been pointing
out in this campaign."
Then, it transpires that her campaign manager Mark Penn was scheduled to meet the Colombian ambassador in his role as CEO of his P.R. firm to promote
a free trade agreement with Columbia.
With further evidence this week that Clinton has been stretching the truth beyond acceptable boundaries, this latest indictment really should force her out of the race. But Clinton seems to have absolutely no sense of decency or morality, just an insatiable appetite to win at all costs.
I hate to spend too much time on Hillary Clinton and her dying campaign, but Carl Bernstein has written an excellent article on the disconnect between Clinton and the truth. Bernstein argues that although Clinton largely has good intentions, her fear of failure gives rise to a questionable relationship with reality. In essence, she makes things up. Says Bernstein:
"Hillary Clinton has many admirable qualities, but candor and openness
and transparency and a commitment to well-established fact have not
been notable among them."
Let's hope for the good of the Democratic Party (or what exists of it) Clinton decides to bow out sooner rather than later. She can't win, and is simply making herself look silly the longer she stays in it.
It is now official: Clinton lied about opposing NAFTA. Having tried to convince everyone she was secretly opposed to NAFTA while her husband rammed it through Congress in the 90's, The Nation reports, "Now we know from the 11,000 pages of Clinton White House documents
released this week that former First Lady was an ardent advocate for NAFTA;
now that we know she held at least five meetings to strategize about
how to win congressional approval of the deal; now that we know she was
in the thick of the manuevering to block the efforts of labor, farm,
environmental and human rights groups to get a better agreement."
It is inevitable and depressing that Clinton will try to wrangle her way out of it saying "It's not NAFTA, it's how NAFTA was implemented that I was opposed to," and even more depressing that people won't really care.
